As Bonfire Night approaches, the hope of implementing firework exclusion zones appears to be fading after local authorities in Scotland failed to initiate the necessary consultations, according to a study by the 1919 magazine.
In June, the government granted local authorities the power to create designated areas where setting off fireworks would be illegal, with the introduction of the firework control zones legislation. However, before these zones can progress, councils are required to conduct a minimum eight-week consultation period, followed by an additional mandatory two-month notice period.
