Nicola Sturgeon, the former leader of the Scottish government, has been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into the illegal funding of the Scottish National Party (SNP). After undergoing questioning for three and a half hours, Sturgeon was released without charges, but the investigation into the alleged funding irregularities continues.
Sturgeon’s resignation in February, following a series of political setbacks and controversies, including her unsuccessful campaign for a second independence referendum and disputes over trans rights legislation, triggered questions about her alleged involvement in the illegal funding scandal surrounding the SNP. Subsequently, a police investigation was launched, resulting in Sturgeon’s arrest as a “suspect.”
